Restoring Hope: Housing Initiative Rebuilds Lives for Displaced Families in Northwest Nigeria
Conflict and displacement have left countless families in Northwest Nigeria struggling for survival. Among them is Summayya Hafizu, a mother of six who was forced to flee her village in Jibia Local Government Area after her home was burned down. Like many Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), she now faces daily challenges in overcrowded camps with limited resources.

To address this crisis, the North West Prevention Facility Project launched in 2023, focusing on building mass housing for displaced families. So far, 404 housing units have been constructed across three states, providing much-needed shelter:
🏠 100 homes in Sokoto State
🏠 152 homes in Katsina State
🏠 152 homes in Zamfara State
This initiative aims to promote social cohesion, provide stability, and prevent further displacement across the region. By restoring lives through secure housing, the project offers hope to vulnerable communities struggling to rebuild.

Hafizu expressed her gratitude, saying, "This is incredible for us, the IDPs. I can't wait to have a roof over my head. I am optimistic about the project's progress and thankful to the donors and the state government for coming to our aid."
Supported by Auswärtiges Amt, German Missions in Nigeria, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the initiative demonstrates the impact of global humanitarian efforts in addressing Nigeria’s housing crisis.
As security challenges persist, projects like this are crucial in ensuring displaced families regain stability. With ongoing construction, thousands more hope for a better future, safe housing, and the chance to rebuild their lives.
